Re: Jessops gone into aministration

One huge problem all shops have now is competing with the internet. Overheads such as VAT/tax -wages- insurance (now including paying part of national insurance on all staff)-rates - share holders -heating -lighting -maintenance- security -advertising and occasionally theft not even including having to buy in some stock all add up to making a company unviable. The way things are going there will be a few more well know high street names disappearing is my bet.

Overseas competition via the internet as one of the main " shop windows" is just another cause of retail chains going under.

Re: Jessops gone into aministration

I think they've had it tough for a while tbh. Casual buyers will tend to pick up a camera from their local tesco or Argos and people interested in DSLRs will shop around online. Many probably buying from Amazon, who of course are off-shore and don't pay the same taxes etc.

Phil

we do have a Curry's super store not over far from us and they have a limited range of DSLR cameras and that limited range is far bigger that the useless tiny Jessops store in Walsall. That store aimed mainly at compact cameras and photo printing via their machine.

The Jessops by us in the town centre is much the same. They've just been through a re-fit as well, and it's difficult to find a DSLR in there now, just compacts and print machines...

Mind you some of the stories I am reading about the administrators for Jessops leaves a rather bad taste in the mouth at present, and if it any of it does survive I'm not sure they'll have much of a future anyway!

BTW, that Currys you're referring to Bazza is the sole reason I swapped from Nikon to Canon. It has a lot to answer for

Re: Jessops gone into aministration

Luckily I have WEX nr me. John Lewis were superb when I was deciding between Canon 600 and Nikon D5100 and if they had the camera lens package I wanted I would have bought then and there.

Re: Jessops gone into aministration

It's quite annoying having made 3 purchases from them, in store, in the last couple of months. I'm hoping the warranty is still valid even with the shop U/S...fairly certain it is a bucket-shop warranty so should be okay...even if one of the products is Jessops badged...

Re: Jessops gone into aministration

For anyone that saw the news of the Jessops shop where the employees advertised themselves in the windows for new jobs, apparently they got alot of offers, despite being told to take it down. So good luck to them!

But its so sad I liked going into Jessops, now I'll have to find somewhere else to go
