Finally decided

Went into John Lewis today. The young man I spoke to was very helpful. Played with Nikon D5100 and Canon EOS 650. ( They will price match other shops by the way. Norwich branch would price match WEX)

Need to look for best deal now but have decided on the following, I think:-

Nikon D5100

Nikon 18-105mm AF-S DX Nikkor f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR

Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 G AF-S VR IF-ED Lens

Spare battery and 2X Hoya Pro 1 digital UV filters.

Had John Lewis been doing a bundle that we could have played with I would have bought there and then. They doing 2 lens kit but not lenses I wanted.

Re: Finally decided

Have you looked on camerapricebuster.co.uk? They should show some good prices for actual shops you can walk into (the type John Lewis will require for the price match) good luck!

Re: Finally decided

Hurrah, new camera and lenses have arrived. Jessop best for camera and lenses and Amazon for genuine Nikon battery and protective UV filters. Battery less than £29, free delivery, Jessops around £70. Filters also much, much cheaper on Amazon. Hope it is sunny tomorrow, batteries charged and manual, all 260 pages, given a quick once over.

Auto and JPEG initially before proceeding to RAW shooting or maybe RAW and JPEG.

Wish me luck.

Re: Finally decided

Congratulations - there's nothing quite like a new camera to get you out shooting and trying new things.

My PC is ancient and I find RAW + JPEG handy especially these days when camera memory is so cheap. So much easier to flip through the JPEGS, work out which are worth keeping then just picking up the corrosponding RAW files.

Re: Finally decided

Thanks for that tip Phil, I'll set for RAW and JPEG. New memory card or two required

Re: Finally decided

I'm still in the early stages of finding my way round all the features and thoroughly enjoying it.
I put my first efforts up a few days ago and got some good constructive criticism for some of the members on here. Good luck.
