Re: Photography degrees...

Oh wow thanks so much for all your answers. They've really got me thinking. I'm actually getting excited now, Photography is my favourite hobby besides dogs and I d love to be a Wildlife photographer - maybe I could actually become one? (Thinking aloud ) So I'm off to look at courses now. Bournemouth is good for animation too I've heard? Which Uni do you go to Lorna? Also thanks to Bazza and jols, your opinion is valued.

Re: Photography degrees...

Hi hon,

I'm at Swansea Metropolitan, I'm doing Photojournalism, There is also a Photo Arts degree too, depends if you see yourself as more of an artist or a photojournalist although the boundaries aren't set in stone. Falmouth is the most respected institution but you have to have a killer portfolio and Cornwall is faaaar! (well it was from me) they have two degrees Photography and Press Photography, if you're thinking about Wildlife photography I'd probably head towards Photojournalism if you were going to do a degree at swansea for example, but not sure which one at Falmouth. Newport Uni have also just updated all their facilities. May I ask what you have done further education wise, Btec/foundation art/a levels?

Don't forget that you have to deviate outside your specific interests during the degree and you will find modules that don't necessarily appeal initially, but you have to appreciate that they will help you grow as a photographer. At my uni you would be based in the art and design campus so you're constantly around very very like-minded people, and everyone helps each other grow.

If you have any other questions I'm happy to help. xx

Re: Photography degrees...

I didn't have any qualifications relating to art had 4 a levels, so I think your art a level will help you, contact the Universities and explain your situation, usually Art A level will be fine.

Re: Photography degrees...

As an aside of experience versus newly qualified. Experience here every day. 2 brand new shiny qualified Vets almost killed my Cat, it took an experienced OWNER to realise THEIR mistake.

Re: Photography degrees...

Hey Phil,

Its the same Uni, was Swansea Institute, now Swansea Met.

Dawn....Vets don't know animals like owners do, bit different to learning all new techniques etc.

How many people on here can tell me they have regular access to a Hasselblad H3?
