Nikon D80 - does it have a dust cleaning system?

Anyone know if it does?

I know I shouldn't but am being tempted! Dixons have it for £603 with £20 off using AW20 code and Nikon are giving you £50 cashback on the kit.

That's with the 18-135mm KIT lens. So total cost is £550!

Wonder how much I could sell my D40 for

Re: Nikon D80 - does it have a dust cleaning system?

As far as I know, only the last 3 camera's that Nikon released have it, the D60, D3 and the D300. I still have dust on my D300 sensor so it defo doesn't stop it completely although may have minimised the problem slightly.

Re: Nikon D80 - does it have a dust cleaning system?

Ah right, thanks Ste.

Maybe I should just hang on for the D90 then

I just thought that rather than getting a 55-200 I could just get the D80 with the 18-135 - if I sold my D40 for £200 and I was going to spend £138 on the new lens anyway, I'd only need to spend another £200 or so for the D80 kit.

Not sure if the lack of anti-dust device would be such a problem tho...?

nope my D80 dont have any ! im usually careful about dust but had some nasty ones when i dropped the camera and had to buy a cleaner/duster to sort it out and i reckon that any cameras that sell with a dust cleaning system is a load of bol..... sorry rubbish anyway !! why say that when is doesnt even do the cleaning job

Re: Nikon D80 - does it have a dust cleaning system?

Maybe we should start a thread and ask if those people who have a camera with an anti-dust or dust cleaning device find it actually works or not!

Phil - I am also tempted by the 14MP Sony A350 that would be the same price and include super steady shot

Re: Nikon D80 - does it have a dust cleaning system?

Clairelou is spot on, the D80 has no anti-dust functions and some of the anti-dust functions out there are more of a gimmick than others.
The D80 is a great camera and I still can't find the justification to pay the difference for the D300 (yet! ;0)
What i would say though Azz is if you are going for the D80 kit is to try and get it with the 18-70 lens which is so much better than the 18-135. Although the 18-135 seems to give you a little more it's actually pretty soft (esp. for a nikkor). The 18-70 is faster and noticeably sharper imho.
Hey, but i only just joined and thought i'd stick a post in and say hello!! ;o)
Great forum btw.

Fraze.

Re: Nikon D80 - does it have a dust cleaning system?

Hey Fraze, welcome to YoP! (Be sure to say hi in the 'your intros' section too )

Thanks for the info. I did wonder why the 18-135 kit was cheaper than the 18-70 kit!

Think I might just get the 55-200 as planned and then think about another body in the summer - I'm in no rush really and I think I want/need another lens more than a new body right now.

Look forward to seeing your pics btw!
