Agree with what everyone else has said (and that I missed this thread before too )

50mm is not a macro lens, so if it's macro you want, get a dedicated macro lens. Some of which (as again mentioned above) can be used as a general purpose (ie non macro) lens.

I've only seen pics with that Tamron 90mm, and thought they were great

I have the Tamron 90mm macro lens F2.8, with 1:1 ratio which is a must. Drawback ? yes if you want to take picture of butterflies on plants or similar then the 90mm focal length is a bit short and can frighten them away, I would be looking for an F2.8 with a 1:1 ratio with a longer focal length.
Plus side great for closeup plants or anything basically static even good for portraits. Also is good for general pictures the range the lens is designed for.
