I know how the colours look on those birds for your information. As for No. 3 it's flat (the colour) because half is in the shade and the other is blown by the light on its back.

That's fine that you like your pictures with feeders and lots of twigs in the background etc, I don't and I'm telling you why, so If you don't like the negative points, then don't post in this section. In other words, if you can't stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen.

And yes, I do try to get my bird shots in unclutered backgrounds and I also change my metering to varying light/background situations to suit. I'm no expert but I know a good capture from a bad/average one

Yeah you just have to take it with as much a pinch of salt as you deem necessary. I do agree it was better to go into detail about why he didn't like them, hence good you asked him to.

It will always be subjective as we all like different things

Well as all these pics as bad/average then my pics are not good enough for the art of photography section so I will no longer post in here.

Don't be daft Ste - your pics are well over the criteria, you've paid attention to all the fundamentals (you may not have done everything right in every single one in some people's opinion - but you have paid attention the principles of photography which is the criteria).

With regards to comments you really do have to take them with as much a pinch of salt as required - because you'll never be able to please everyone, and on the whole people are only going to point out any weaknesses in order to try and help us (in their opinion) take better pics.

Just remember you won't ever be able to please everyone - the comments are for your appraisal and you value them as you see fit.

I do agree that DJ should have pointed out 'why' he didn't like the pics (in his first post) as that's much more helpful than just saying you don't like them. Unfortunately when that happens it does offend the person a tad as they'll think the comment isn't constructive or helpful, and maybe a bit rude. But we all have off days and sometimes we rush things without noticing.

Nice set of images there, especially the last one. A couple of shots you have missed the focus on the eye which is a shame, but I know how birds constantly twitch and move, making them tricky things to capture.

I like image no2, I know the subject is in the middle of the frame, and sometimes that works, sometimes not, in this case I think it is personal preference.

The last shot is really good though, good composition, great focus, colours etc. If I was being really picky, and I mean really really picky, I guess you could point out the shadow down the bird, but that is being really picky

I have to say it's threads like these that do make some of us feel we shouldn't postin here, are any of us good enough really? I look at these shots and think yes, they are very good, there's a bit of background on some of them, but for me that doesn't distract. My favourites being the first and last ones - I really liek the bullfinch shot, but then, it is a favourite bird of mine.

It would have been nice if the great tit had been facing you! but it's still a good shot anyway.

All in all a nice set
