Oyster catcher

Captured this in Skipness off the east coast of Kintyre (got some nice Sunset shots there too, will post them soon) I got quite close because there was a nest nearby.

Re: Oyster catcher

Very nice, but it's a little noisy perhaps? Mind, it doesn't detract from the photo. Lovely composition, and colours are spot on. I love Oycs!

Re: Oyster catcher

Thanks Laura. Yes, there is some noise but not very noticeble, are you viewing it at 200%? LOL just kidding. I don't use in camera noise reduction on the 50d as it slows the buffer when shooting in continuous hi-speed mode and tend not to use it in Canon's DPP conversion software unless I think it would really benefit the image by doing so.
But really, if any of my images were so noisy that I had to use any kind of noise reduction software then A) that image would have been underexposed and compensated for to produce so much noise, or B) the image would have been cropped severely, or even C shot at high ISO in low light.
So, the shot would have to be something special to salvage it by using noise reduction in any of those events

I've tried noise reduction software in the past (turns your images into waxworks) but IMO there is no need for it, just like hdr software -photomatrix, it's all gimicky and the novelty wears off very quickly.

Re: Oyster catcher

Point more than taken, and in many cases I agree! You didn't need to justify yourself to me by the way

FTR - I've used Neat Image myself, and found that if I really fiddle the levels, I can get very pleasing noise reduction - but it's hardly worth bothering unless it's rather bad already - and this photo isn't as I said!

Re: Oyster catcher

Nice shot.

I always smile when I see one of these as Hannah used to call them carrot faces,

We get Oystercatchers nesting in the shrubs in my works car park (by Dundee Airport) and each year when they have chicks a whole section of the car park has to be closed off as they come charging out and attack your feet.
