Birds at the Zoo

Sorry I don't know the name of the first bird, not being a bird person. I did find it an attractive shot so I captured it. The Lorikeets I've photographed many times. The overcast skies made for great lighting.

Re: Birds at the Zoo

Some lovely colour again there Bob.

Sorry Can't help ID number 1.

3 is lovely but 2 snatches it for me because the fence isn't visible.

I hope you made it out unscathed this time !

I knew the fence was visible in that shot but the expression and composition was so perfect I decided to shoot it anyway. The attendant took the attack this week. One of her coworkers had to pry off four birds.

Re: Birds at the Zoo

Number three is lovely but for the fence - as you say the composition is grand and the expression you've caught is gorgeous - as are the wonderful colours - so it is a shame about the fence.

Number 2 is my favourite - like it a lot!

Number 1 is sadly rather noisy however it is an interesting composition The bird is an Inca Tern by the way

Re: Birds at the Zoo

Very beautiful birds, really like the second shot Bob, love the composition. I knew Laura would be able to ID the bird

Re: Birds at the Zoo

Nice to see the exif data left in picture 2, havn't checked the others

ISO 640-shutter speed 1/100- Aperture f5.6- focal length 200- auto white balance- Aperture priority - Nikon D90.

This is the kind of information that can help when taking similar photos,so well done Bob for leaving it in.

Apart from the above what I also like is the way the mesh of the cage has not shown up.

For those new to photography who may want to know how, its done by holding the camera lens as close or on the mesh which blurrs it so much it becomes invisible. Tip either use a lens hood or a finger between the lens lip and the mesh to keep just that bit away from the mesh so the lens doesn't get marks on it.

Oh by the way I happen to like all the photos

Re: Birds at the Zoo

I normally try very hard to avoid the chain link fence in the background but in this case the pose was too perfect to turn down. I tried to edit out the links and felt it wasn't worth the effort. I would have had to change the entire background. Maybe the next time I go I'll just shoot a few background shots without birds in the frame so I can use them for shots like this.
