D7000 iso 3200

Here's an example of a snapshot taken of me. There was no cropping. It was taken at 3200 ISO without flash. I think I'm going to like this new camera.

That was pretty amazing Phil. It was obvious to me that at the same ISO that the D7000 test images were sharper, with better contrast and greatly reduced noise. IMHO Thanks for that link.

Re: D7000 iso 3200

The D300 is a lovely camera for reasons other than noise handling. Although it was ground breaking at the time, it's 3-4 years old now and sensors have come on a generation. Nevertheless, unless you are shooting at more than ISO 800, and lets face it, most people won't generally need to, it is still a fantastic camera. The 7000 though rightly moves on a generation and is better. If I was buying crop format for quality, the 7000 would probably be my choice although I prefer the slightly bigger physical size of the 300 (or it's successor).

Rockwell compare the D7000 to the D3 (i.e. D700 has exactly the same image quality). The D3 wins on detail but the 7000 holds on well. Again you would be buying full frame maybe for other reasons, and if you can afford it, a D3S would probably have all the qualities of a modern D7000 multiplied into a full frame sensor. Progess. Two years and we will be looking at putting the 7000 in nthe shade with something new.

Re: D7000 iso 3200

If you remember BC I was heaping praises on the D90 when I moved from the D40X. Advancements will continue to be made because in digital photography we're talking about computer processing power. My first slr was a Canon FTQL back in 1970. The QL(Quick Load) portion of that designation was a leap ahead in technology. That's the nature of everything. Personal computers have an even more remarkable rise in technology throughout the years.

I upgraded to the D7000 from the D90 for very specific reasons involving higher ISO capability with reduced noise, more individually adjustable focal points, a mirror lock-up for longer exposures and advancements in video features that now utilize auto-focus at 1080P with stereo sound. Although I may not use the video capabilities much they are an option.

Now that I'm retired I have nothing but time on my side to enjoy my hobbies. Once the hardware is purchased digital photography is a very inexpensive pass time that I love. I look forward to growing with this new kit and continuing my quest to explore my world.
