Canon 50mm f1.8 II

Hi,

I just bought a canon 50mm f1.8 II lens today. I have tested it but was confused about the AF/MF button. When I push up to AF, the lens' ring does not focus by itself (not moving at all). Is there anything that I don't know about this lens?

Pls help.

Winnie

Re: Canon 50mm f1.8 II

What body are you using it on ?

When set to AF the focus ring should turn (well my 50mm 1.8 does) and the front element move in and out.

Obviously on MF you turn it yourself.

Double check your AF isn't switched off on your camera body.

Re: Canon 50mm f1.8 II

I am using Canon 1000D. Do I need to adjust any setting or it would just focus by itself (AF mode) when I have attached the lens to the body?

Re: Canon 50mm f1.8 II

have you checked your camera settings? sounds to me that you havn't changed the setting on it from manual, have a look at the handbook at how to change to AF. Having looked at the body there is a button marked AF and in the centre another marked set, not being a canon owner I can only suspect these two buttons have something to do with it.

Of course with Nikon cameras these niggles just don't happen

Is it just this lens you're having this issue with ?

Does your other lens autofocus with the camera set exactly the same ?

Re: Canon 50mm f1.8 II

I just found out why it doesn't work. I did not attach the lens properly until "tuck" sound is heard. Huh, luckily nothing's wrong with my lens, if not I have to travel far to change it. Thanks everyone for the replies =)
