Clonakilty Causeway

Not the most conventional lens to use for landscape, but thought I'd see how I felt about long length landscapes, as it's always appealed Any thoughts welcome.

Re: Clonakilty Causeway

Not sure about this one.

It's not a criticism - I'm not sure about it in the same way that I'm not sure about any of any of the long lens landscapes I've done so far either. They kind of look like normal landscapes taken with a normal lens but from a distance.

What I've figured out (but haven't really had time to find a location) is a scene where you've something really far away, something far away, and something in the middle distance. Then you need to be far enough away from the nearest thing (middle distance) to kind of squash them all together.

Not sure if that makes sense or not ?

Re: Clonakilty Causeway

Not sure either Laura, I think it's because there is nothing in the far distance, so you eye stops at the tree line, then bounces back to the pony in the foreground.

Phil explained it better than me I really like the idea of longer zoom landscapes. Alot of the ones I have seen, that I like seem to be taken at a lower vantage point than the far distance, so for example, looking up a valley, or up a hillside, mountain, etc. With something in the middle like a gate, building, tree, animal to pull you in, but not too close.

But, on the bright side, you must of got lots of lovely hills, and barns, etc where you are

Nice effort though, think if the horse was more of a feature, there would be something more to look at!

Re: Clonakilty Causeway

I completely agree guys Thanks for that, I think I needed it pointing out to me, because I couldn't see it myself!

Surprisingly few hills and barns around here - it's not as pretty as you'd think - a lot of the farms are not at all traditional, and it's hard for me to make a feature of them in a photo. I know a lot of people probably could - but I like more natural images

I will keep trying this though, it is fun having a go!
