Which flash

I'm going to get a flash for my D300.

The obvious flash unit choices are the Nikon 600/800/900

Has anyone any of these - and what are your thoughts?

Re: Which flash

i have the SB 800 bought it prior to the release of the 900. very pleased with it. have used it as an off camera flash and also on camera. fairly easy to understand and comes with a comprehensive instruction book..nice light comes from it... i mostly us on the TTL setting and don't go far wrong.

i dare say the 900 would be a better option now... all depends on budget

Re: Which flash

They're all great - it really depends on whether you need to features of the higher the higher end models, and whether you might prefer two cheaper sb600s (to use off camera) instead of one of the others?

Re: Which flash

But will you need more than one?

I think a multi flash set-up can make for some really interesting photos

Re: Which flash

I'm currently thinking... I want to be able to use the flash on the hotshoe - also via cable/remote and I'm also thinking about the requirement for it to operate as a master to slave units or to trip a lighting set.

Re: Which flash

Don't quote me on this but I think they can all trip a lighting set, but only the 800+ can be used as a master..

Re: Which flash

Iv got the 800 and 600. The 800 s far superior and is all you will need from a flash. The 900 has all the bells and whistles, but you will be paying more for features you are more than likely not going to use
