What's needed to set up a photography studio?

Ok... so what is needed to set up a studio, for portrait work?

And roughly how much would it cost?

Thought the thread might be of interest to anyone thinking about setting one up

Well my guess would be a camera and a room for starters

Re: What's needed to set up a photography studio?

If you had a mobile studio, a room might not be needed...
Get an old removals van and kit it out like a studio inside.... and get it all logo'd up on the outside....

Might need a generator or a few batteries to power it all.

then you could drive round to lots of busy events and offer your services...
Might sound a bit sinister though.... asking people to get in the back of your van. lol

(heads off to autotrader to price up a van... lol)

Re: What's needed to set up a photography studio?

My studio equipment includes....

2 Bowens lights plus stands, soft box, umbrella, and battery pack for mobile studio set up (~£1200)
Lastolite Vynle (sp?) white back drop with stand (~£300)
my camera and a decent portrait lens and flash (can't remember how much)
tripod (~£150)

Next on the list is to rent out a proper room for studio work, but might have to wait until we move and convert one of the rooms to a studio. But my downstairs in my house is plenty large enough for now.

Re: What's needed to set up a photography studio?

You can do it on a budget - a set of basic studio lights and reflectors, and a backdrop - say £400ish all in all...

Are you thinking of setting up at home? in a rented retail unit? or mobile?
