My garden pond update

The men have been and fibre-glassed the pond and after several days of filling it up, today we transferred the fish from their temporary home into it, we thought there was between 40 -50 fish, we have actually got 160 plus a few tiddlers.

So here is my pond story in photo's

We dug the pond in 2002

but sadly after completion the pond cracked and started to leak, the fish was put into a sort of tank, which we put a pond liner in

The pond was cleaned and ready for the fibreglass

Then a company coated it with fibreglass

Then we added water, Plants and the fish

There is still some work to do, we have some nice stone to go around on top and at the moment we are using standard filters, but hubby want to build the filters into what will look like a stream, running down to the pond,

Re: My garden pond update

That's a wonderful pond, I really want a koi pond, I have two very small koi, in a huge tank with some fancy goldfish at the moment, sort of ended up with them, and I want to build them a pond, so might come and pick your brains at some point

It looks fantastic, how do you keep herons etc off the pond?

Thanks Moonstone, Herons are a problem, i 've had lots of ideas from people, like using nets, fishing line around the pond and plastic herons , i'm not really sure if any of them work,
at the moment my baby Megan {that's my Newfie} is the problem, i thought the water maybe a thing with her, but she is fascinated with the fish swimming around

Re: My garden pond update

Ahhhh, if you find anything that works let me know,we get a lot of big birds, and I was thinking I really don't want the fish to end up as snacks , the dog problem is another thing to worry about, as Meg is such a water baby, and she'd be trying to get in all the time

Re: My garden pond update

wow. That's not a pond. That's a lake

Great picture story musky. It looks great and will look even better when the plants mature.
Plastic herons do work, well they have worked for my neighbour

Thanks Skyline, oh no !!! not plastic herons, i was hoping that one didn't work no seriously thanks, I will order my hubby a plastic heron at once, it would be a great shame if anything happen to the fish now,

I can't believe how big some of them have got, there is a ghost carp and it is 24" long, i wonder if the large fish will be safe, as in to big for the heron to catch

I think you may need more than one heron with a pond that size
I myself would also put reed in the for them to hide in and a few lily pads to hide under. I might also be worth getting the mesh you can hardly see to cover it. It's a big lovely thing you have there. Keep them as safe as you can
