Did any of you watch?

Did any of you watch the "Seven Photographs that changed Fashion" last night on BBc Four?

It was brilliant, it will probably be repeated as they usually are, BBC Four is having a style , fashion, icon type week, and they had Rankin take 7 iconic Fashion Photographs, and then do his version. He used some of the cameras that the original pics were taken on, and his own modern equipment. It was fascinating watching him work. He got advice from people that knew the Photographers, or were their assistants, or models.

He did Cecil Beaton, Herb Ritts, Helmut Newton, he did his own version of the famous David Bailey shot of Jean Shrimpton, looking over her shoulder holding her hair up, and he had David Bailey in there telling how he shot it. He even borrowed David's old Rolleiflex to shoot it on. My fave was his version of the Richard Avedon shot with 50's model Dovima, where she posed with elephants in a beautiful gown, he used Erin O'Connor in his version, and it was wonderful.

It was just brilliant to watch.

It might be on BBCi player if you are interested.

Re: Did any of you watch?

Didn't see the prog Moonie but meant to - will look it up. Used to have a Mamiya C220 and a Yashica 124G, both medium format TLR's. Really enjoyed using those, focussing on a big, glass screen which was the closest I ever got to using a Rolleiflex but I can see how it works nicely with a model once you get used to it.

Re: Did any of you watch?

Oh you would of loved it, if it is on again, I could copy it onto DVD for you Zoundz to watch?

Helmut Newtons shot was shot in Paris, the original model helped, and it was great. Helmut Newton's work made women look women look very strong, and sexy. He did his take on Guy Bourdin's work too, which again is very sexual and powerful, how lots of people try and use this strong look today. He was saying how after the 60's sex was in fashion, and photography and used in the images.

Re: Did any of you watch?

No probs just need to have a serious talk with the DVD recorder thingie and ask it nicely if it will behave, I shall have a practise first, to make sure I can get it to work I know it records, but I never use that, I just play DVDs in it

I think it is on at the weekend
