A couple from The Black Valley

Considering I'm not usually much good at landscape - I was really really proud of these and thought they were a huge improvement. All comments welcomed, I do really want to improve at landscape - so would love to take any advice on board. It was a pretty poo day weather wise - so maybe that's not helping - but then - I was happy with it as it was, because it was so atmospheric and spooky and dark... This particular location is well hidden and hard to find, and is a very very popular spot among a few of the 'togs in our club! I can see why - it's gorgeous! It really lends itself to B&W too. There is really very little editing done on these (I can't be bothered ATM ) - this really is how it looked!

Re: A couple from The Black Valley

Hey they're pretty good.

I much prefer the composition in 3 and 4 than 1 and 2. The lead in lines of the track are much better and the tree/cottage give a nice point of interest.

5 & 6 are a nice composition and in 7 and 8 you're also getting some forground interest into the frame.

Re: A couple from The Black Valley

Some nice shots in there Laura with 4 and 8 being my favourites. Keep at it I would say, don't always shoot at f22 Laura (unless you want to get a nice effect from a waterfall ,river, sea etc) as you can see it makes the images a little soft around the edges, more noticeable with cropped sensors. Try between f8 and f16.

Re: A couple from The Black Valley

Thanks DJ! It was mainly to try and catch as much depth in the mountains as possible, they never seemed to be sharp enough when the lens was more open! I will try that again though! It could be that the LCD just doesn't show as sharp as it should!

Thanks for the feedback!

Re: A couple from The Black Valley

Some interesting work here. I like #5 the best because of the "frame me" composition. I also like the b&w version, #4.

Re: A couple from The Black Valley

4 and 5 for me too.
Useful information about F numbers DJ. I would have assumed that a bigger f number would be better. I shall bear that it mind when I next try a landscape.
