Different Lenses

Hi Guys...

I'm not sure if this should be posted under landscapes, as it's not really the landscape that I'm showing you.

Anyhoo...

Just thought I'd post a couple of pictures of the same scene, but with 2 different lenses, just to give you an idea of how varied you can make your shot.

The first picture was taken using my 18-200mm lens, set fully wide.

The green arrow is pointing at this...

This shot was taken from exactly the same position, this time using my 500mm Reflex lens. The mountain is well over 40 miles away and I could barely see it with the naked eye due to the hazey light on the horizon.

Both shots are straight from camera, except for re-sizing to enable posting.

Re: Different Lenses

So that's 18mm compared to 500mm.

Nice example but what's the hill ? (Sorry I'm the Mountain geek on yop)

It's a similar shot to DJ's 'fab' pic of Ben Lomond.

Re: Different Lenses

If my bearings are right Phil, I think it is Ben Lomond. The picture was taken just to the South East of Hamilton, in Lanarkshire. I looked at it on Google Earth, and the distance was roughly 44.6miles, but I'm not sure how to show you the G.E. screen capture to highlight this.

Re: Different Lenses

Very nice demonstration Mande Daguerre on wide vs telephoto.

As far as the screen capture in Google Earth goes...

Once you have located your search, simply hit the Print Screen key, go to Photoshop and select new. Set your new document fields and hit Ctrl V to paste the screen capture image onto your new document.

Here is a link to the image you were trying to capture. Wanted to use link because of the size that I made the document.

Hope that helps,

My missus said something like that a while back, I couldn't hear her properly though, I had my headphones on.
At least I'm sure that's what she said!

Re: Different Lenses

WOW BP !

The link to the image you gave me is pretty much spot on.
I was just slightly more to the East when I took the shots, but I have to say, considering where you are in the World, I'm totally impressed with your Geography and sense of direction.

Thanks again for the tip!
