Backgrounds

So what do you get when you cross a haystack with a Wilbur? I haven't come up with a name yet but here's the results.

I'll try.

Open the photo of hay you like
Apply gaussian blur filter 83 setting(or whatever pleases you)
Make adjustments (saturation, contrast etc)to that background at this point
Open second photo of Wilbur(or whoever)
Select all of Wilbur file
While holding shift key drag Wilbur into the photo of blurred hay
With Wilbur selected in layers panel crop around Wilbur's portrait
This creates two identically sized layers with Wilbur on top
Click add mask layer on bottom of layers pallet
Do a ctrl left click on mask in layers pallet next to Wilbur
Using various magnifications use hard eraser around Wilbur
revealing the blurred hay layer behind him
This takes time unless you have a faster way to select just Wilbur
such as MaskPro from OnOne Software
Finally, do a layer flatten and save the new file

You're welcome to copy & use the hay photos stored at http://bobmielke.smugmug.com under the Backgrounds, Textures & Frames Album for your own use. There are both landscape & portrait orientation photos of the hay and the resolution is so big it should fill anyone's need for a background. Have fun, I did.

I have so much more to learn. I need to learn how to do masking & selections easier. That one photo took me over an hour to do, much too much time involved to get to that quality of editing. I just happen to have lots of time on my side so I'm learning as fast as I can. Thanks for the look.
