Re: Canon 7D - get from ebay?

I am always wary of any internet site selling stuff if somewhere there is not a postal address or a landline telephone number. On that basis I can't find any Uk address for UKelectronics. I am not saying they are not a genuine honest company but its just something to watch out for. Even gone thru yell and the only company I can come up with is UK Eletronics who make circuit boards and the like, a completely different company.

Re: Canon 7D - get from ebay?

In tests, the Nikon D7000 performs well but doesn't match the low light performance of a full frame Nikon e.g. D700. Can't see Canon will be any different.

Do you need to buy new? Excellent secondhand kit at places like MPB. Not everyone can afford or even wants to pay for new.
Kit 1
Nikon D700
Nikon 28-70 f2.8 ED AF-S (The Beast)
Nikon 80-200mm f2.8
Tamron 24-135 SP
Nikon 300mm f4
Nikon 70-300mm VR
Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 (DX)
Nikon 28-105mm (great walkaround on D700!)
Lensbaby Composer
Nikon 20-35mm f2.8
Nikon SB800
Kit 2
Nikon D300
Nikon 20mm f2.8
Nikon 24mm f2.8
Nikon 28mm f2.8
Nikon 35mm f2
Nikon 50mm f1.4
Nikon 85mm f1.8
Micro-Nikon 60mm f2.8
Micro-Nikon 105mm f2.8
Tamron 28-75mm f2.8

Re: Canon 7D - get from ebay?

I'd also consider buying 'used' from a reputable seller.

Camera bodies come and go like the seasons and for the cost of a new 7D you could easily pick up a mint pro body with peace of mind.

I've nothing against 'new' but I always think that after 3 or 4 months a camera is just a mint 'used' camera - something you see for sale all the time at a fraction of the cost.

On the other hand - for the price of a new body - there's always the option of a mint used higher spec model for the same outlay.
Kit 1
Canon 1D Mark 3
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Kit 2
1D2 & 40D

Re: Canon 7D - get from ebay?

I'd quite happily buy used, im just not that clued up on it all, that and the cost of pro lenses seem to be nearly the same as a body. Which is what out prices me right now. Id love the 5d mk 2 to be fair.

That said the only place ive looked for used gear is ebay which are auctions.
Kit 1

Cheers Phil, you've altered my mind set completely! I need to completely rethink my plan now, best get researching local camera exchanges. It seems ebay doesn't really throw a bargain out there as auctions of used gear only really shave a fraction off the bought new price.

Re: Canon 7D - get from ebay?

I agree about going down the secondhand route, camera change so quickly, and many people have to have the latest model, so often sell their on, to get the latest model.

My 24-70mm is a used model, I rented it from a camera rental place, and then fell in love with it so much, I ended up buying it, is excellent condition, but at a lower price. I am renting a 85mm 1.4 at the moment, as I really wanted to try it, as I've used the 1.8 but not the 1.4, it's a good way to stop you making costly mistakes in the long run

A lot of rental places do have the option to buy, so might be something to think about too.

Re: Canon 7D - get from ebay?

I think that is what I might do in future ^^

Rent from a reputable company, and then when I feel comfortable with the quality/condition of the product buy it at their price - which should be a fair bit lower than buying new.

Just don't expect huge savings, it's cheaper than buying new, but not as cheap as taking a chance on something like Ebay, but you get to use and decide if it's the right lens for you first.

I missed out several words in my previous post, must read through before hitting reply
