Simple Siskins

Really struggling to find the time to get out and about at the moment so here's a couple of Siskins in the garden at the weekend. Feels like the first shots I've taken in ages with some sunshine.

Re: Simple Siskins

Are these handheld Phil or do you use a tripod?

Re: Simple Siskins

Cheers folks

Skyline - I don't bother with a tripod for birds in the garden as I only have a second or so for each shot and (with a ball head) I miss too many. The bit where I sit has a little wire fence / screen between me and the feeders so I rest the lens collar foot on a beanbag on the fence post. I find it's the best mix of sturdiness and camera maneuverability without investing in a gimbal head.

Generally speaking I keep the shutter speed up to 1/500 or faster for little birds so handheld isn't too tricky. If the light gets to the point that I can't maintain that speed at max aperture and ISO 800, I'll knock it on the head.

Cool. I use that red pod bean bag thing I bought. I still can't get then to come out as sharp though, might have a lot to do with the lens I suppose.

What would have if you went over ISO of 800?
