Re: Sea gull chat

Just wondering if this is a Laughing Gull Shirley, would certainly bring out the Twitchers on this side of the pond.

Not a Herring Gull Shirley, dark bill, and legs rule that out, i think this may be a non breeding or first winter Laughing gull, they dont have dark hoods, heres a link to an image. http://uk.images.search.yahoo.com/im...mb=Q1m7tQPsDVu

Must admit i hate trying to ID gulls as they go through so many changes across several years before reaching adult plumage.

Re: Sea gull chat

Mossy, I sure agree gulls do have a large variety of color changes, by season as well as by age.. looked at the images in your link...one is for sure not a gull at all but a Egret! And I once saw a Bonaparte's gull..in Michigan while working ground on our farm...always brings a lot of gulls to grab the grubs that are stirred up behind the tractor and harrow or disc or plow...one single strange looking one...checked it out in my bird book...not common in Mi though. I had no camera then, now wish I had started photography a long time ago! Thanks for clearing up the identity of the gull here..Laughing gulls are common there on that dock..as are several other kinds..
