Pencil Drawings

I got into photography as a way of recording wildlife, the old naturalists took copious notes and did sketches as a way of recording nature, better than shooting specimens.

Drawing in the field is something ive tried but i was terrible, did find i could copy from photographs but not a skill i developed. The other problem i found was photographing the results, they never seem to match the original drawing, here are a couple of examples.

Re: Pencil Drawings

Thanks guys, i know a guy who sits watching wildlife through a scope with a notebook and pen in hand, he turns out superb sketches in real time, the second sketch is the closest ive come to this, the first took me ages and is unfinished.

I often start something and lose confidence part way through, bit like my photography.

regards brian.

Re: Pencil Drawings

Do not put yourself down Brian, they are not bad sketches. Myself, like you could only draw from other sketches/photographs and they would look half decent but doing sketches freehand was another thing altogether.
If it is something you want to do, alongside your photography, then keep at it, the more you sketch the better your confidence will become

They are very good Brian. I wish I could draw. I've tried and failed.

Re: Pencil Drawings

Mossy
One thing I am very jealous of is someone who can draw/sketch, and your work to my untrained eye is fantastic. If only I could be a fraction as good, but its not to be.

Anything to do with the arts be it drawing/painting-music or whatever, you are reading about the most useless person on this earth. I can't even paint a wall properly without putting down too much too little paint. Even spray painting hits everything that doesn't want painting.

Should correct myself somewhat I can draw a straight line with the aid of a ruler, and I am not bad at drawing a pint of beer either.

Few years ago now I watched an artist at work, he said he was drawing a horse and cart. I said I can see the horse but not the cart, and he replied "no you won't be able to see the cart because the horse has to draw that"

Re: Pencil Drawings

Gawd Bazza wot a joke i work very slowly and use rubbers quite a bit, i keep having a bash then quit for weeks. I guess i should work more regularly, but i cant discipline myself enough.

Ta for the comment Sky.

regards brian.
