Red Bellied Woodpecker

This guy has just started to visit the garden, he is very wary, so this is the closest I have got before he flies off. he is a red bellied woodpecker, even though he isn't very red on the belly, but there is a red hooded woodpecker, who has a complete red head. Confused?

Yep, I am very lucky, wait till you see my squiggle pics, I have 5 today, at one time! TBH at the moment I am excited I am taking bird shots, as mine are usually fairly cr@p, I keep forgetting composition

He is very handsome, and quiet big, it is the closest I have ever got to any woodpecker too so I do hope he comes back

Re: Red Bellied Woodpecker

Looks like a Greater Spotted Woodpecker. The male has a red head while the female has a black head.
