Tropical Butterflies

A visit to Butterfly world near St Albans

1 : Common Mormon

2 : Glasswing

3 : Indian Leaf Butterfly

4 : Owl Butterfly

5 : Postman

Next group i cannot identify.

I was a little disappointed with a lot of the images, i need to start using the F stops more instead of having it set on the same setting for every image i take, usually set at F5.6, especially when im imaging insects.

Very good set. That Indian Leaf Butterfly is crazy. Never seen that one before.

Re: Tropical Butterflies

Thanks Ken & Dave

I could of spent hours in the Butterfly greenhouse, there were some 30 species flying around in there, they said approx 600 butterflies, it gets quite busy in there though and it was hard to get some good shots, added difficulty with the camera lens steaming up all the time and camera getting hot, after an hour it was on a go slow.

The Indian leaf is great, it was a shame that it was not on a plant or something, just to see how camouflaged it is. Not just the Indian Leaf but i think all the butterflies are beautiful, detail amazing, the size of some of them, much larger than we get over here.

Image 9 i particularly like, it looks like it has footballs for eyes, quite cool

Cheers Musky

The Owl, and the butterflies in Pic 7 and 8 were quite large butterflies, Wingspan 4 inches +....Butterfly in image 7, its colours are amazing, it reminds me of art on a modern painting

Re: Tropical Butterflies

Thanks Cakey Yes nice gardens there, The Biome is not set to open until Dec2012, it was supposed to be opened this month but they are still short of funds, some £6million they are still looking to raise, not even started building it yet......It should be great when it is finished though. It will certainly put BW on the map
