HMS Warrior Wedding - Portsmouth

An impressive venue but a nightmare for light. The ceremony was on the gun deck (ie, indoors) and the ship is about 80 feet width with no light from above and 7 foot ceilings with steel girders every 8 feet - so trying to bounce up meant the light was stopped from spreading by the girders. The only natural light was from the cannon portholes every 15 feet or so, so I was at ISO2000 from the word go. Outside on the main deck the sun was in and out of clouds all day and really windy. I haven't used flash so much for ages and got through 3 sets of AA's.

Re: HMS Warrior Wedding - Portsmouth

Some very nice shots there. I like the mono deck shots. Nice narrow Dof too, great for lifting the subjects off the page.

Next time you are in Pompey, come have a cuppa

Re: HMS Warrior Wedding - Portsmouth

Thank you all.

I will do that Alan. Close to my old stamping ground (I was brought up in Gosport/Alverstoke/Fareham) as my Dad was a submariner.

The outdoor shots are at ISO 200 and 400 Azz, and the b/w indoor were shot between 800 and 2000. Excellent high ISO performance indeed.

Re: HMS Warrior Wedding - Portsmouth

The flare was deliberate - I aimed for it. Personally I like it - it adds to the drama.

Here's a flash-free shot at ISO4000 though:
