Re: Fallow Deer

Another nice composition Sally but again it's soft (and I'm personally not keen on the PP).

I think I may go over a bit over the top with the pp and sometimes ruin images! I purposely add the soft glow look though, as I like it.

Re: Fallow Deer

The photo appears overexposed Sally. Also, the vignetting is much too dark! Work on getting your subjects out of the center of the composition.

I agree that the vignetting is too dark, but as for overexposed...I'm not sure. I did add a 'glow' effect to to the photo, so maybe that's it. The composition...Well I only had a split second to take this shot, before the deer ran off!

Re: Fallow Deer

What about showing us the original image to compare the before and after effect.

Don't take this the wrong way but for me having looked at several of your photos I think you concentrate to much in editing and over do it.

I would suggest, if I may, your main thing should be to think about focus as some photos appear soft, and composition needs to be worked on before anything else.

Have you looked at this tutorial?

http://www.nikondigitutor.com/eng/d40/index.shtml

Click on the focus setting and watch the video ,as well as the other full videos on your camera or just run the movie mode.

Thank Bazza, my other half is always telling me that I over do it with the editing, I think it's because I think my pictures aren't good enough, until they have been edited. I will look at that video link in a bit. I also think that my photos often look a little soft because I like the 'glow' effect and often add it to my pics, which obviously takes away a bit of the sharpness. I am definitely working on my composition skills now, so hopefully that will improve soon!

Thanks for the constructive critiscm, which I do need!

Anyway, here is the original image (well without all the vignetting, but may have glow added already!).

And another shot I got, of another deer, which was part of the same group as the first....

Re: Fallow Deer

SALLY SALLY SALLY!!! There is nothing wrong with the original images a few tweaks wont help, there is no need for all the editing.

A slight crop and a wee sharpen, and I personally think the image is very nice indeed.

Re: Fallow Deer

Now that last one Sally of the deer out in the open field just about to step into a puddle, it is far far superior to the first original you posted with all that editing stuff. The composition leaves room to imagine the deer having room to move forward.

If I were to be ultra critical maybe a wee bit faster shutter speed to stop the movement of the deer, but that is a minor point and over the net pictures arn't the same as seeing them on ones own computer. It may be just down to camera shake, of which I am very guilty of.

Well done keep them comming like that and DON'T mess with them. Oh and I concur with Dawns comments.

Getting one good photo of an animal in the wild is worth 50 bad ones, its not as easy as some may think

Re: Fallow Deer

I agree with Bazza Sally that the originals are much better than the edited version. A simple crop to get the deer off center and it will be a real "keeper". I too like the second photo better than the first. Nice job.
