"Bid"

Bid is one of our recent additions to the senior group at my local McDonald's. He comes to join us on Wednesdays & Saturdays. I was demonstrating my new D800 and discovered this snapshot turned out pretty good with the natural lighting. Remember, he's sitting in a booth so my framing had to be pretty close to hide the fact that he was at McDonald's. The D800 takes really nice portraits with its wide exposure range.

Re: "Bid"

That's wonderfully clear Bob.

In terms of the framing - I think you could have got away without mentioning McDonald's as it doesn't strike me as being too tight.

Lovely light too by the way.

PS - I don't mean this to sound cheeky but have you ever heard of Victor Meldrew ?

No, I've never heard of him but I just Googled his name and see the character he played. Bid is a lonely, grumpy old man that talks to loud and seeks constant conversation. He hops from table to table at McDonald's two days a week. I suppose all of our group seeks social companionship within our group otherwise we wouldn't gather there every day.

I like to photograph people with character in their face. The old, wrinkled faces have lots of life's experiences and stories galore. I include myself in that discription.

Bid sounds a fine character Bob however I should add - with regards to Victor - it was just the physical likeness

Check out Victor's show though - 'One foot in the grave' It's very funny.

McDonald's is a fast food restaurant chain, the largest in the United States. Their uncovered windows have little of interest to photograph outside. If you're careful you can position your shot and crop out these distracting backgrounds.

Fast food restaurants in the United States are like magnets to local seniors and travelers. Seniors get a discount on hot coffee and if you watch the coupon pages in the local newspaper of mailer flyer you can almost eat for free. As a group we exchange coupons all the time.

Seems like a great way to deal with the seniors; kill them off by sending them to Makka's to eat. Don't you have laws against euthanasia and suicide, or in Makka's case, genocide?

Actually we in Oregon have a "right to die" law that makes euthanasia legal. They are very liberal here so "Supersize Me"!
