Waterfalls

I went to North Wales a couple of weeks ago and thought I would share a couple of pictures Unfortunately I couldn't slow down the water as much as I would have liked as I didn't have my tripod with me, so all shots were handheld.

Re: Waterfalls

These are nice shots of some lovely scenery, think you did well to slow things up that much hand held.

I am in two minds if I prefer waterfalls taken with a very slow shutter which gives the water a milky look or with a very fast one that records each splashing drop, I think the latter but still find beauty in those taken with a slow shutter, what do others prefer?

Re: Waterfalls

Thanks all, i'm pretty pleased with how they turned out - would love to go back with a tripod (and a magical way of preventing spray getting onto the lens! I was wiping the lens every 5 seconds to get rid of the spray on the Pistyll Rheader shots )

The shutter speed varied since I was shooting in both Manual and Aperture priority modes but here are the main stats (sorry, my resizer has stripped the EXIF although I have the leave EXIF data box checked!).

1: 1/8 F22 28mm

2: 1/10 F22 85mm

3: 1/8 F20 44mm

4: 1/125 F5 85mm

5: 1/20 F16 85mm

6: 1/13 F11 85mm

7: 1/100 F5.6 19mm

All at ISO 100.

Re: Waterfalls

Very nice work, the water looks a little brown in some have obviously not your fault! Have you thought of desaturating the water?

It isn't something I have considered since I prefer to leave the shot as natural as possible. Whilst it would probably enhance the photo, to me it wouldn't be an accurate representation. The water at Pistyll Rhaeder was very brown (due to the peat it collects off the hills)

Plus, I also have a slight adversion to most PPing
