Would you copy right?

As most know im just starting out photography as a hobby - but as i get better and get more experience - better lenses etc i hope to start charging probably a £1 an email print for my work - just purely to buy new lenses and cover my costs. This is when i get good... not yet

But i took a few hundred photos the other day for a horse show - wasnt supposed to be doing anyone elses photos except my friends but the show organisers clocked a dslr and asked if i wouldnt mind - obviously i didnt as it was practise....

question is - ive uploaded them tp photobucket for people just to copy and save the photos - i own the copyright on the photos? correct??

and because i own the copyright, do i put my name on the photos - even though i know they are NOT currently sellable photography or do i not???

Im not selling yet i took the photos (do i actually waant a comeback on these ) any help much appreciate before i send the link!!

Re: Would you copy right?

Copyright is automatically yours, as the person who took the photo

It can only be transferred via a contract

Re: Would you copy right?

The difficulty with signing them is that they will be around forever with your name on them. If you don't think that they are up to scratch then you could be impacting future paid work. People could see them in 3 years time and see them as a representation of your work.
What you could do is put your name (and date) on them. Then, if you ever get to a point where you want to have a little business, you can have a different logo / business name you put on those photos. That way any past wobbly photos won't be associated with new improved photos.

Re: Would you copy right?

^^ Agree. Only watermark your best work or images you dont want stolen/used/copied (although watermarks can be removed).

Re: Would you copy right?

thanks all

no i definately dont want these pics in a few years tbh!

i wont put anything on them - just uploaded them to a free website so people can just click and save if they want them....

i had the camera less than 24 hours so i dont really want this impacting on my future work

have done it as a nice website but put on its a blog (which it is).... and people i speak to ive told them im new to it and do not expect much yet.....

will post the link up when im done

Good luck with it all! I put copyright on all my rat images because people have a habit of stealing rat photos!

Re: Would you copy right?

haha trust me they wont steal mine

ive let them unwritten on as these are able to be copied for the people that want the photos..... i dont mind these being used as indont want them hanging over my head in a few years - its more of a blog to be honest to watch myself (hopefully progress)....

Re: Would you copy right?

I'm not a good photographer but some of mine have been used on websites that I didn't know about. Fortunately people on here and other sites saw them and advised me.
