1st attempt at daylight long exposure

Due to the lack of bird life around at College Lake nature reserve today, whilst sat in one of the hides i thought i would try out my ND filter properly for the 1st time and attempt to do some long exposure images. Because it was so bright i only ended up with one half decent image of 15 seconds, tried 30 seconds but image was very over exposed. I was limited to where i could shoot due to the glare off the water from the sun.....I really need to invest in a polarizing filter as well.....
Its not a great image but i am pleased with it for my 1st proper attempt, the water looking calm when in reality it was quite choppy.......
Does anybody have any tips to help me improve my long exposure imaging??

Setting for this image were ISO100, F32 with a 15sec exposure time..

Re: 1st attempt at daylight long exposure

IT does make for an interesting shot actually, I like the colour and the motion blur in the trees too I would say you might be best off trying it on more cloudy/dark days though, or at sunset/sunrise?

I like it ,would of been better if just the water had the effect
did you take a normal picture ,if so you could mix the two in PS

Re: 1st attempt at daylight long exposure

Thanks Laura, that was something i was wondering, whether sunrise/sunset would be the best time to do long exposure, as the lighting is much better......

Unfortunately not Cakey, i wish i had of done, even if it was just for a comparison, but i was concentrating more on the length of exposure i could get really.....
