Uncommon birds

A few photos of rare birds ive seen over the years, most i would describe as record shots, some are digiscoped, all are in poor weather conditions as thats when rare species tend to turn up.

Red-flanked bluetail.

Although Robin like its related to the flycatchers, ranges from Siberia to Japan, but there are some pairs now in Finland. A birders bird, it drew many admirers

.

European Roller.

This one was seen by many, so far away this was digiscoped, bonny birds and a rare visitor to the UK.

Wryneck

Old world woodpecker, it gets its name from the ability to twist its head around almost 180 degrees.

Squacco Heron.

These normally winter in Africa, this one turned up on the Northumberland coast in Autumn. Digiscoped using a Nikon Coolpix and scope.

regards brian.

Some wonderful birds Brian, I find the markings on the Wryneck wonderful to look at, I should imaging a very well camouflaged bird when not on the ground.

Re: Uncommon birds

Thanks Owen, Lost, Sky,and Ken, ta for commenting. Lost i havent Digiscoped for a long time, found it so frustrating because of shutter lag, the scope i use is a Swarvoski 80mm.

Ken it took me many years to see my first Wryneck, they are tiny and very elusive.

regards everyone. Thanks Shirley M.

Re: Uncommon birds

Before i go into terrestrial photography Brian i was into Astrophotography but sadly do not have much time to keep it up at the moment so the 2 main observing scopes i have are just gathering dust now. I was going to go down the route of using the smaller scope, a Skywatcher 127 Maksutov-Cassegrain, using it for imaging birds though i soon found its much too slow, at F11.81, so quickly gave up the idea of using this scope. I would of loved to use my bigger scope, a Skywatcher 10" reflector at f4.7 it would be perfect, only problem, its a little big, its not something i would be able to hang off the end of my camera and carry around with ease, lol.
