This is Pitstone Windmill. It is believed to be the oldest Windmill in the British Isles. It bears the date of 1627. It ended its life in 1902 after a big storm hit the region. It was then restored in the 1960`s and is now owned by the national trust.

Re: The Oldest Windmill in the British Isles

Hey Mark, I've never noticed that windmill before, I'll have to go have a look next time I'm going to the "Downs".

I like the 400mm shot the best.

I used to fly radio controlled slope soarers from Ivinghoe Beacon.

Re: The Oldest Windmill in the British Isles

Thanks Ken
I could not get both in image at 190mm, i could of gone down to 100mm but Windmill did not show up well. Ivanhoe Beacon is just showing in the 1st image.
Windmills are not usually my thing, just the fact of the age of this Windmill, i thought i would photograph it whilst we were in the area.

Re: The Oldest Windmill in the British Isles

Great mids think alike Cakey, although the only chalk carving i know of in the area is Whipsnade Lion, which is on the other side of Ivinghoe Beacon about 2 miles NE.
