Canon 5D replacement

I have been following the rumour that a 5D replacement will be released for about 6 months now.

I just Read this.

The 5D replacement and new Sony FF are in the hands of reviewers, but no D3'x' [DPR]

Also there is again the prospect of two FF Canon bodies a la 3D/6D and another mention of the 'end' of the '1D' line.

Photokina is next week think (or if not the week after) and I can't wait

Re: Canon 5D replacement

In the market for a new cam are ya!? Good stuff

The replacement is a sure thing, now that Nikon have brought out the D700 - which from what I have seen has gone down really well.

WIll be interesting to see what specs the new Canon model will have - hope they ram loads in there! Best thing about competition is they cram more features in to out-do each other

Keep us posted Alan!

Re: Canon 5D replacement

I am in the market for a new body yes Been saving for the elusive 5D replacement for a while now.

There is a lot of speculation over whether the 5D will be replaced with a single model, ala 5DMk11 or whether they will split the model line up in to a two models, 3D and 7D with the 3D being closer to 1D and the 3D being an budget (entry level) FF body, the 5D would be a kind of FF 50D with the 3D being a lower spec 1DMk111n.

I personally am not too bothered about specs, hope they don't put that idiotic live view or face recognition on it though. All I really want is FF, MPix I am not worried about, it can be 10Mpix for all I care, but I do want better nosie handling and ISO up to 12,800 would be nice (25,600 if you can though)

I like the idea of the lens micro adjustment too. Some better weather sealing would be nice. Not sure about the dust screen, most people I have spoken to say it is not that effective.

Re: Canon 5D replacement

Must say I would love a FF camera, was looking at some photos taken with the D700 and 50mm 1.4 the other day and thought they were pretty awesome! They weren't even studio shots, just taken in the home by the look of it. I'll ask the owner if I can post them here and post them up if he says yes.

Re: Canon 5D replacement

Sounds good Azz,

One of the lenses I use is an 85mm F1.2. I love the lens, but for most things 85mm x crop factor = 136mm and that is too looooong for the sort of work I do

I should have bought the 50mm, but was worried it would not be long enough went I went FF. So hopefully the FF will give me exactly what I want from my 85mm.

Also, I can't wait to use my 17mm on a FF sensor, it'll be like having a panorama camera

Re: Canon 5D replacement

Sounds like it will be perfect for your needs Alan - I look forward to seeing the pics!

Talking of pics, here are two of the ones I mentioned in post 4, they were taken by Guy Collier in natural light with the D700 and Nikkor 50mm 1.4 - I love the clarity and colour in them, along with the smooth bokeh. Also, they seem practically noise free - something that FX cameras excel at.

I am so tempted to get the 1.4 50mm!

Re: Canon 5D replacement

Nice pictures.

If you look at the girls eyes on the first photo you can definately see two catch lights, they could be windows or reflectors, but the subject has been placed where the light is optimal

As for Bokeh, I would say its too hard to see, as nothing is that out of foucs, but bokeh is a product of the lens not the body.

Having said that, I would be plesed if these were my shots. As for the 1.4 50mm, can't say, but I have the 1.2 50 and the 1.8 50 and both are great lenses, so I am sure the 1.4 will be equally as good.

Go buy one Azz, you know you want too

Re: Canon 5D replacement

Yeah sorry - he did say 'no lighting other than available window light' was used for the shots, I just forgot to mention it.

I so want a 1.4 50mm... but I need a new kitchen as well, not to mention an entire floor of this house still needs gutting

But I am so tempted!

How else will you accurately document the successful completion of your new kitchen and floor if you don't have a suitble lens

Re: Canon 5D replacement

Hi Alan - I took those shots above. No lighting was used other than natural. The first was taken in my daughter's playroom which has a window directly in front and another to the right as you look at the shot.

They're just home snaps.
