Neat tip - Nikon D300 users

For those of you with a Nikon D300 I know this works... it may work on other models too; I'd be interested to know if it does.

You know when you've taken a picture and you then want to quickly preview it on the LCD for sharpness and detail? It's a case of pressing the left hand magnification button a number of times until you have focused right in - and then you do the same in reverse (if you don't just hit the back button after).

Well, here is a nifty little tip that lets you preview your images at a magnification of your choosing - with one press of a button and then another to return to full image size. You may ask why? Well this tip is ideal for those taking photos at weddings, sports events, etc... where you simply don't have the luxury of time between shots.

OK you need to set it up first, which is very simple....try it, and you will wonder why you've not done it already...

with your camera on - press the 'Menu' button then go to 'Custom Setting menu' and scroll down to 'f' (Controls), hit OK, then select 'f1' (Multi selector center button') hit OK, then scroll down to 'Playback Mode' hit OK, then scroll down to 'Zoom on/off', hit OK, then you will be given 3 options... Low, medium, or high magnification. Select one which suits your needs (try them all to see - I have mine set on Medium). Press 'OK', 'Menu', 'Menu' to return you to your blank LCD screen. That's you all set up.

Now when you view an image on your LCD, simply press the large Multi-selector button on the back of your camera with your thumb once.

If you have set up correctly, it will instantly zoom in to the magnification you pre-set it at. Now press the same large Multi-selector button once again and it returns you to your full screen image.

Neat eh!

I've had this set up for a long time and is a great little trick in the field, coupled with the rear thumbwheel to go between shots in zoom helps with quick chimping
