Lens that work with D40 (Lens Compatibility list)

Nikon D40 lens compatibility comes up quite a bit, so this thread might be helpful.

The D40 is only fully compatibile* with AF-S lens - Here's a quick list of AF-S Lenses:

O f the above lens which would be the best one for general use?

are these compatable with a d40x as well?

the 70-200mm f 2.8 is a top lens Jols and all of the above are compatable with the D40x and the D60, as these too, have no focus motor in them. I borrowed the 70-200 f2.8 for the last wedding I did and it was a really nice lens! but quite costly @ £1,200!!!!! but Sigma do a good 70-200 f2.8 for about £670. The 60mm f2.8 is a good portrait and macro lens @ £370 but if you can be bothered focusing yourself I'd go for the 50mm f1.8.

but i have seen others on ebay for under 50 pound dont know what they are best at but i like a suprise.lol
