Canon Lens Questions

I have a few questions and just wondering if anyone can help

Does anyone know if the kit lens from the 300d will fit the 400d?

Or would I be better off just getting the 400d with the kit lens?

Is this a good/okay lens Sigma 28-300mm f3.5-6.3 DG Macro Lens?

Or would I be better off getting a 75-300mm(or similar) and a 28-90mm(or similar)?

These are the three I am looking at just now, Good? Bad? Simga/Tamron alternative better?
Canon EF 28-90mm f4-5.6 III Lens
Canon EF 75-300mm f4-5.6 III Lens
Canon EF 75-300mm f4-5.6 USM III Lens

Also wanting to get the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II

Or if anyone else wants to suggest some lenses then I have about £300 to £400 to spend on lenses (would rather keep it closer to £300)

Thanks

Re: Canon Lens Questions

As far as I know, the 300d kit lens will fit the 400d

Even if it didn't I would suggest not getting the kit lens but a different/better lens (I'm not keen on the Canon kit lens tbh).

I'm not sure about the other lens, tbh, although lower F numbers usually means better quality

Re: Canon Lens Questions

I'd say it all depends what you wanna shoot Megan, there are some wildly varying focal lengths there!!

Sigma and Tamaron are good alternatives, they are 80-90% the quality of the lenses made by the camera manufacturer's for generally around half the price. There is the odd problem with Sigma lenses, but if you get a good un you get a good un!

Apparently Sigma keep a stock of the good uns at the factory for the ones that they have to replace on quality grounds.

Re: Canon Lens Questions

Yes it will fit fine.

Getting a lens when you buy a camera is a good way of getting a lens for less though.

Remember there's 2 types of lens for EOS Canon's.

EF lenses will fit cropped sensor EOS models like the 300/400 as well as the full frame models.

EF-S lenses will only fit the cropped sensor EOS models like the 300/400.

The 50mm f1.8 (nifty fifty) is a great little lens and great value.

I'd also suggest the 17-85mm (in my sig below) as good image stabilized lens that has a good focal range for everyday shooting. It's a step up from the kit lenses and is often what people choose with Canon 40D and 50D models.
Kit 1
Canon 1D Mark 3
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Kit 2
1D2 & 40D
