Certainly a great effort! We are getting a snow storm right now so I'm hoping that I can get out there and work the snowflakes again. I might have to check out the tip from Daisy.

A difficult one Mary really, with the weather being grey difficult to light it with natural light, but try and add lighting or flash the result ends up very over exposed. A blue sky with the sun hidden would of been perfect
Hope if you try after the snowstorm you have better luck

I think you've done well to try - it's exceptionally difficult to get snowflake shapes if you don't have a set up for it - and I think you've done well to try Getting closer of course would help, but if your kit doesn't allow, then of course you can't! Would love to have a go myself, and at the idea Daisy suggested - however it's not cold enough here 
if I left a sheet of polythene with water on it out overnight - then I would have a sheet of polythene with water on it in the morning too!
