Sparrowhawk, Duckling, Gsw, Siskin etc

Various bird shots from Lochwinnoch RSPB.

1)Sparrowhawk. This young male (I think) landed about 5ft in front of the photohide and because he was so close I could only get a head and shoulder shot as I was using my 400mm f5.6 L prime.

2)Male Siskin

3)Duckling

4)Great spotted woodpecker

5)Heron

6)Young Goldfinch

7)Blue tit

8)Siskin

9)Magpie

10)Great tit

Thanks for looking. #3, 8 and 9 shot with 5dMKII

Excellent captures again DJ.

I think it was extremely lucky that you happen to have been using your 400, as that is a corker of a shot.

I also really like 3 & 4.

Great stuff. I must get myself down there one day, as it's not a million miles away from me.

Thanks everyone.

You really should MD as there are quite a few togs from Glasgow and surrounding area that visit often, not to mention people from all over the UK that visit as well.

I prefer visiting Lochwinnoch RSPB in the early afternoon as the light is much better for shooting birds from the hide as it faces the Sun in the morning, but there are other hides along the trails that would be ideal for early morning photography.

Weekends can seem very busy with lots of cars in the car park but most people just park and go off somewhere anyway. The hide next to the centre can take 5 people and it's only been full a few times since I started visiting.

Weekdays are usually very quiet there unless they have something organised for children or adults which can be seen in advance on there website.

I was there yesterday and the car park was jam packed with cars but suprisingly the centre itself was not very busy and only two other people visited the photohide for the time I spent there.

I should point out as well that #3, 8 and 9 were shot using my 5dMkII

Re: Sparrowhawk, Duckling, Gsw, Siskin etc

The whole set is great Grant! I love # 3 the best as I'm fond of fuzzy little ducklings. I've got a backyard full of them each Spring. Can you give me an idea of the F-stop you're shooting at? I could check the exif data but thought I'd ask instead.
