ABU Slmbil Egypt

This was a rebuild when they made lake Nassar. A concrete shell on the inside and all the outside was rebuilt piece by piece exatly as it was.

the broken statue was left like that as that is how it was found originally

Just a quick look the other way from where the photos where taken from with Lake Nasser in the background.

the first three definitely scream egypt, but the last one had me mesmerized. never would have imagined a shoreline looking like that in egypt.

Re: ABU Slmbil Egypt

that is the cliff edge so no beach just there, but around the corner you get.

Abu Simbil is an amazing place, it was a 3 hour coach journey and close to the Lebonese border,so went in a convoy of about 100 coaches/mini buses with armed guards on board travelling at around 80mph (100kmh) non stop.

Tha Aswan dam had one of these at each end and armed guards everywhere.

One side of the Aswan High Dam(Nassar Lake side) no videoing allowed only stills. Very strict on that, infact strict wasn't the right word more like whipped of for interrogation at gun point if caught and you would have been. These people don't mess about, so afraid of a Lebonese border raid.

Egypt has 3 police type forces, military-civil and tourist and many were plain clothed

Other side showing hydro power section

Looking straght down the Dam ( notice the house on the right at the bottom to give some idea how big this thing is )

And the top of the Dam

Yes a road and coach park, one can't imagine how big this is

Re: ABU Slmbil Egypt

Thanks all, I have to say that the Egyptian people are extremely friendly the downside is there are loads of street sellers pestering all the time even going through the locks.

Even from small boats trying to sell to passangers on the cruise boats

And when the boat goes to the lower level in the dock you get this

Took almost 1300 still photos and 4 hours of videos on that trip.
