Purrr

This beauty is known as Boris. His mate, Kia, chases him all over their environment at Portland's Zoo.

Since I'm not limited by ISO choices this gives me a lot of latitude for depth of field and shutter speed. The 70-300mm lens I used today tends to get soft at 300mm unless I keep the lens at F/8 or F/11. Also, without Vibration Reduction on this lens I need to shoot at no less that 1/300" to assure a sharp shot. Not an issue here since I could brace myself against the PlexiGlas viewing window. I've gotten used to the idiosyncrasies of this great $115 Nikon lens. Using this FX lens on my DX D7000 body increases the lens' practical focal range from 70-300 to 105-450mm.

Re: Purrr

Beautiful subject, there is not even a hint of a captive shot. Was this taken through glass, or through wire! I love visiting any kind of animal centre zoo, I really like the detail on the fur, those little odd white hairs popping up from the spots. The kitty looks quite serene

cheers Marion
