aunt grace

my great aunt. taken at a recent wedding shower. it was indoors and the lighting was horrible. i thought all of the images were going to be horribly contrasty as the lights were off in the house but the curtains were open and it was really bright outside. so i was happy when most of them came out usable.

Re: aunt grace

I think you did a fine job with a well exposed photo of a beloved relative. I would have post processed it just a bit to smooth off the rough edges. I've included an example below.

18mm Fujinon
35mm Fujinon
60mm Fujinon
18-55 Fujinon
55-200mm Fujinon

Re: aunt grace

but she's a great aunt. wrinkles come with the job, no post processing needed. that'd be like smoothing out granny and trying to put her in sport illustrated swimsuit edition. just doesn't fool anyone.

Re: aunt grace

Lovely shot, great light, prefer the real Aunt, rather than the smoother version. x

Re: aunt grace

I'm afraid, while I see what Bob's about with that edit, it isn't pleasing to me - I far prefer the original.

You haven't got your edit box ticked so I won't show you another edit - but I think cloning out the head behind her neck would make a *huge* difference to the shot. I think it's a fab photo, well worth tweaking! well done!

Re: aunt grace

I think I prefer the original, ( although I can see what bob was trying to do...) you did ok with the lighting as well.

This weekend a friend of mine shot a wedding for a friend and last night I helped out with some of the processing...I also did a bit of skin work in one of the bride pics ( who I personally know ) but afterwards it just wasn't her, so i went back to doing just what was needed.

Re: aunt grace

thanks everyone. i didn't do much editing to this one because i was trying to get all of the photos from the shower out quickly. just some basic cropping and tonal work in lightroom. i will probably go back to this one next week (when i'm on evening shift at work and have more free time) and clone out my grandmother's white hair and smooth out the background.

Re: aunt grace

It can be very tricky with spectacles, but you have avoided losing the eyes to the reflected light, a nice portrait indeed.
