Now you see the difference using the rule of three. The bottom of the picture to the rock/sea edge is nearly 1/3 the height of the picture.

Quick way to do a rule of three check is to hide (in this case the top) part of the screen picture with a piece of paper and move it down (or sideways) to see what difference this can make to a picture.

Don't forget the rule of thirds is just a guide - some pictures work better when that rule is broken.
I preferred your orginal crop because the big empty space gave it a beautiful stillness.
