Learning Curve For Software

As some of you know I keep trying different techniques and software effects. Despite long hours watching training videos I just haven't learned OnOne Software's FocalPoint software. It's supposed to allow control over sharpness & blur filters. I may just give up on this module included in the Perfect Suite of plug-in software. It's frustrating and I apologize for posting some poor photographs at time because of my lack of knowledge regarding it's use.

Re: Learning Curve For Software

I don't think you have tanything to apologise for.

I'm just starting out learning photoshop and have been stunned about how much modern software can do - even though I've only scratched the surface.

If you are finding it frustrating you though, have you ever thought of looking to see whether there is an evening/day class for your software? Sometimes learning from someone is much quicker and easier than trying to pick it up from videos and manuals.

ETA- do you remember telling me about how to get two bits of a photograph in focus by using layers...well I've only recently worked out how to do that!

Thank you for the encouragement Hali. Being a perfectionist creates its own set of demons. I've been using Photoshop since I bought version 4.0 many years ago. My personality demands that I continuously improve my skills. OnOne's PerfectFocus is a plug-in that has potential so I continue toying with it. Someday the light bulb of understanding will go on and I will add it to my list of tools regularly used.

Since OnOne software is actually a very local company I may contact them and ask what courses or resources are available. Thanks for giving me that idea.

Re: Learning Curve For Software

Don't apologise - most software just takes getting used to. Keep at it and you'll master it in no time
