Re: 52 Snaps and ramblings

Week 2 saw me a yet another dog show (sorry more dogs) this time 3 days stewarding at a championship show – no real time to use the camera but did manage these two head shots, this of a Goldie in my ring

Hope to have a new lens arrive tomorrow so should be able to find something non dog for the third week out of my lens tests.

Re: 52 Snaps and ramblings

January Week 3

My long awaited new lens arrived this week and I have been able to play with it a little, unfortunately the week has been busy, non photography wise and I have only been able to snatch a short try - hope to be able to have a longer try this coming week.

Took a few shots of the house plants and here we have Cyclamen

and Jasmine buds

Jasmine & Shadows, I like shadows

and left over from Christmas if I can spell it a shot of the Poinsettia, well what remains of the Poinsettia that seems to have lost more leaf than it has retained. It seems to have lost loads of clarity in being uploaded so I will remove and replace later if I can get a decent upload, wish I knew why some shots upload with reasonable degradation and others are impossible.

Have chopped the image in half and reduced the pixels, it may be because it is red but I am loosing lots of detail, anyone who may read this if you can help I would be grateful, thanks.

See you next week.

Re: 52 Snaps and ramblings

Photobucket, even if I reduce them first you still seem to get the Jpeg (artifacts) I think they are called and the clarity seems to go altogether. Lost count now of the number of times I have uploaded something to the forum only to look at the preview and decide that I don't want that particular image to be viewed in such a mangled state. Seems as if the better the personal equipment gets the more we expect and it would seem the hosting companies are not managing to keep up with the improvement in cameras although some times in some forums the loss of quality does not seem so bad even with an image you would reject elsewhere.

Glad it is not just me, thought I may be viewing things with a too critical eye, particulaly my own work. Is it Flicker you use Suzi?

Re: 52 Snaps and ramblings

I love these shots. What is the new lens again, remind me?
I missed the head shot excellent.

I use flickr.

[Dont worry about posting pics of dogs, cause dogs are an important part of your life and the '52' is supposed to be a snapshot of your year in 52 pics, mine will have a lot of luke i exect and the beach]

Re: 52 Snaps and ramblings

Hi Jols the head shot of the Elk (Greyscale) was the 50mm f1.4 Pentax I think on my istD body the others were the Sigma 28mm - 300mm also on the istD body I think but it may have been the Z20D can't remember will have to have a look. BTW the head shot was in greyscale because the carpet was a horrid green and reflected on the lighter parts of the dogs coat, think the carpet was ex Crufts so you know the colour.

Heron just flown over the back yard, not a camera within reach, of course, when I spend hours glued to the view finder all I get are black birds and sparrows, I am determined to get a decent shot of a bird, any bird, and would think I have a better chance with a big bird, bigger the better

Re: 52 Snaps and ramblings

I used to put my faves on Flickr and keep all of them on photobucket, but now if I want to post something I use Flickr , as I keep getting fed up with posting something that didn't look right

Re: 52 Snaps and ramblings

Week Four already.

Spent the week trying to come to terms with my new 50mm - 500mm lens, first the weather then the birds conspired to stop me in my tracks but I did manage a shot of a sparrow that you can recognise

and one of a sparrow in flight that I took with the 28 - 300mm when I was after something else, not good but my first in flight small bird.

Hoping for some better photographic weather next week
