Babyface (rat)

Just thought I'd aim for ultra cute - with pinky tones and soft focus I think it's adorable anyway!

Re: Babyface (rat)

Very nice - normally I'd say that it would be nice to keep the eyes in focus rather than the nose - or use a deeper dof to retain focus on both but this works really well as it is.

The splay (is that a word) of the whiskers and the symetry make for a really good almost abstract shot.

Re: Babyface (rat)

Hehe! It is huge!

Thanks Phil - appreciate the opinion! I normally focus on the eyes, and in fact, I should have a couple of the same baby where they eyes were the focus, but I was going for the same thing as I have in my avatar (which of course, is too small to tell properly) - where the nose area is the more in focus. I don't think it's quite right, but I was pleased with the result anyway. There's much to improve on here, but generally, I like the feel of the shot

Re: Babyface (rat)

I think that is a really nice picture. It's really cute and many people would immediatly warm to it. I do though think it could be improved with a bit of PP (unless it is my monitor). I feel the white could be a cleaner white and all the tones run back from that. At the moment I also think the eye is drawn up and out over the top, the brightest parts of the image. You need to keep us looking. Might be just a crop or a play with dampening down the tones. Thanks for posting.

Re: Babyface (rat)

Thanks BC - very helpful, when I can edit stuff properly I'll have another go!

I'm not sure what you mean about cleaner white? I deliberately made it pinkier in tones - so it's not a white balance error, or your screen - the actual rat is a sort of yellowy colour, but I was experimenting, and thinking about how to get rats to look adorable, even to people that hate them, and thought pink has soft, cuddly connotations!

I agree with the eye being led away though, I wonder if a slight vignette might draw the eye in to the centre a bit more?
