Re: nikon 70-300mm lense

Suze

There is a large price difference between the 70-300mm lens (VR or not VR you don't say) and the Nikon 70-200mm lens

Nikon 70-300mm non VR =£70
Nikon 70-300mm VR =£350
Nikon 70 -200 VR = £1389
Nikon 70-200 VR mk 11 = £1600

Figures are approx only

So you will have to put a huge wedge of cash down as well as your existing lens to do a swap. To be honest i don't think anyone will swap for a lesser priced lens, you would be better trying to sell it and buy the other.

Re: nikon 70-300mm lense

The Sigma 70-200mm lens goes for about £650 give or take depending on retailer and I can recommend it as I already have one. Doesn't have image stablisation but for fast focus on moving subjects thats not that important in my book. add the Sigma 1.4 tele converter and you get a lens of 98-280mm @f4 should you need the extra mm, which is a little better than the 70-300 f4.5-f5.6
The 2x Sigma tele converter pushes the F number up too much to be worth it

Lower the f number the "faster" the lens generally as it lets more light onto the sensor so you can use a faster shutter speed

Oh that Sigma lens is a lot heavier than the Nikon 70-300 which for me does stop the camera shake and is steadier I find

Suze

Focus-on-imaging at the NEC Birmingham is on from 7-10 March (google it) I would highly recommend you go, every bit of camera gear and more is there for a hands on to try/buy. Its the biggest camera show under one roof in Europe and the train station is right outside with its own entrance
