If you dont understand or know how to spot Distortion, Vignitting, CA and dont mind build quality, then its pointless going for pro glass.
I don't want to start an argument here, so please don't take this the wrong way, it is just an observation, but...

Buying a great body like a Nikkon D200 and then putting a Tamron lens on it is like buying a Ferrari and fitting it with remould tyres. You would get better quality images by buying a lower Nikkon body, and spending what you saved on a better lens.

I'm not having a go at you personally, I just used your kit as an example. I realise that you may upgrade your lens in the future. However, the way photography is going, it will be cheaper in the future to upgrade bodies rather than lenses

Glass is everything in photography.

Another cardinal sin performed by people is to buy a fairly expensive lens, then stick a filter on it they bought from ebay for £5.

Re: Going to give Tamron / Sigma a go

Well I didn't know about the 'chip' problem - does this affect Nikons too or just Canon cameras? Is it the same with Tamron?

I am still keen to give Sigma and Tamron a go, as I am a firm believer in testing things out for myself and forming my own opinion (as much as I respect everyone's here). And of course your opinions have been very helpful as well, as it's always interesting to see what others think.

I'm sure you guys will be the first to know what I decide on!

Thanks again for all your posts

I figured that you would change the lens at some point

But there are people out there that are like that, I know someone who bought a Canon 1D Mk111 (the 'N' not the big one) and then purchased a Sigma 50-500mm to go on it - not the best use of his money really, but the thought 1D, thats all I need.

Good luck with the saving mind, hope you get it soon. i've been saving for the 5D replacement, feels like I have been saving forever I'm not the best saver in the world either, especially if I see a 'bargain' hehe.

hehe.

Re: Going to give Tamron / Sigma a go

KK Did'nt you use that tamron lens for the sports day pics that you were selling to make money for the school?

Why did you use it on a pro shoot if you ''hate it''?

Re: Going to give Tamron / Sigma a go

Jols. It was all i had at the time. If i had a spare 1.5K i would have bought myself the Nikkor.

Just for the record, it was a free shoot.
