How are things going?

Thought it would be nice to have a general chat thread - hows you're photography going? Getting any new gear? Anything you want to chat about (photography-wise)?

Re: How are things going?

I am in one of those phases. Wanted a smaller compact camera so I could take it everywhere, then got one but realised I missed RAW modes and DSLR quality/feel

Think I may just need a new (DSLR) camera to get me back into it all - but it feels like I've been waiting years for that D400 to arrive! And now it looks like the 'Micro DSLR' arena is hotting up with Sony's NEX 5 out in about a week and news of Nikon's 'EVIL' patent (mirror-less design) so them possibly launching one soon too. No doubt Canon will have one up their sleeve as well.

Ideally I would like a small easy-to-take-everywhere DSLR!!

Anyone else going thro similar? What's your story right now?

Re: How are things going?

I'm a frustrated photographer just now - is there really any other sort ?

Plenty of enthusiasm but not enough time to go off and do what I really want to do - more landscape photography. I've a holiday coming up in a few weeks at Glenelg (by Skye) so I'm looking forward to that.

Kit wise I'm happy with the 40D for now. I was close to getting a 5DII a while back but then decided against it. What I do want though is a better landscape lens than the EF-S 17-85 IS USM but may have to sell a few things first.

Kit 2

Re: How are things going?

I've got lots of time, good health and good equipment. What I need I can't have, dry weather. It won't stop raining here in the Pacific Northwest. This affects not only my photography hobby by my motorcycling. My Triumph has a heavy coating of dust on it. I scooted out for a quick 40 mile ride last week but had to hurry back to beat a downpour. I'm going to stop working and head into retirement in just 28 days so it better stop raining by then.

Re: How are things going?

I'm in a glass buying mode buying new lenses that are FF compatible, so I can buy a new body. Seems pointless buying Full Frame, unless you got some decent glass to attach.

Photography wise, been quite busy, but not complaininggot a Baby Shower this week, and then helping at a wedding the following week, and then that's it till I move, where I will have to start making contacts all over again
Do have a Road Trip of the Southern States this summer, to look forward too, so camera will be coming alongPlus, want to take my camera into the mountains again before moving.

Re: How are things going?

Ive not been doing much lately. I did a few shots a few weeks ago, and sold a lot of prints from the racing in April and May. I dont have my 7D at the min, I lent it to my brother in law, he is in Albuquerque on holiday and he is doing his best friends wedding. (I feel a film title coming on) His 5D went in for sensor cleaning (5yrs old I think) and they said its cracked! Quoting £600 and 4-6wks to fix!!!

Will be wanting to get out more soon, but showing a pup means many of my days off will be spent at shows.
Kit 1

Re: How are things going?

Glad I'm not the only one having a 'hard time' with photography at the mo!

Feels like I've been waiting so long for the D400/800 that I might just go with the Canon 7D instead... I love it's 1080p movie mode! Not sure about lenses tho - some of them cost a lot more than the nikon equivalents! (Tho I'd be happy with a 1.4 50mm for quite some time I think). Dawn trust you not to be posting any 7D pics when I'm desperate to see some LOL!
