Re: iphone for photography??

There have been pro photographers that have done complete projects using nothing more than a cell phone. I get cell phone photos from my relatives all the time asking me to "work my magic" in Photoshop to make them better. My opinion is that they are practically worthless unless you see "Bigfoot" or an alien spacecraft landing and that's all you have to record the event. Pocket digital cameras are tiny with 12 Mega-pixel sensors, vibration reduction, geo-tagging and 25-300mm optical zooms that shoot good photographs in low light at 1600 ISO. I'll not waste my time trying to get a phone to compete with that.

I've got an iPhone4 and quite like the HDR mode on it - it's actually pretty neat for a phone camera

Re: iphone for photography??

These are great David.

In the same way 'Grunge' took the music scene away from the guitar perfectionists - there's a very similar thing going on in photography with 'Lomography' becoming very popular again - something which some of the phone apps are allowing loads of folk to get into.

Re: iphone for photography??

Love them, phone pics can be great, check out Chase Jarvis, Mr Finney, he did a book of iPhone pics, and some of them are just brilliant. Personally, having any camera with you,is better than none, and there are many times when I don't have my DSLR or even my P&S, but I always have my phone with me.

Also Sion,he's been a flickr contact for years, and I have seen him really make a name for himself with phone photography, being published in a lot of magazines.http://www.flickr.com/photos/sionfullana/

Re: iphone for photography??

thanks Mooniepoos! love the flickr link!

Phil look what grunge gave us! One of the greatest singer-songwriters, musicians and artists of moden times in Mr kurt cobain!

Azz I really do love the iphone! and the hipstamatic app is my fav'

Bobinator nice pic there on ya Leica compact very sharp, nice colour! and your friend is pulling off a very good Roger Moore eyebrow lift too!

the more photos I take and the more I look at the work of others, I've started to worry less about the type of equipment I'm using and how much post processing I'm doing. now don't get me wrong I'm not turning in to an art student! I would still sell my wife (sorry Mrs Finney) for a top class studio set up and a Hasselblad! but I think you can lose the "fun" of photography and phone photography is allowing the fun back in, well it is in my case anyway!

Re: iphone for photography??

There are lots of times when I run around with my Nikon D7000, even to Mcdonald's. This morning will be an example of that as one of my senior friends, 79, has here daughter here visiting from Chicago, Illinois. I remember a time recently when the only camera I had with me was my camera phone as two little kids, about 3 years old each, were kissing each other through a glass door at a restaurant. It was a "too cute", once in a lifetime spontaneous shot. I got it on my cell phone but don't know how to transfer it to my computer. It's still there as I discovered the other day. I'll try & learn how to make the transfer and post it on here.

As with anything else an accomplished photographer such as yourself can take interesting and charming photos with a cell phone or pinhole camera for that matter. I look forward to see more of your adventurous exploits.

Re: iphone for photography??

Finbar, I finally figured out how to send myself an email from my phone with a photo attached. I recovered that photo I mentioned. It's blurry but it's cute. Thanks for starting this thread as I've learned something new.

Re: iphone for photography??

Great pics - is the corridor hipstamatic? A friend takes a lot of hipstamatic (sp) photos, makes me wish I could afford an iphone just for the camera and apps.
