Re: New 5D Mark III & Lenses

I can't help thinking that Canon are over pricing them selves when you look at some of Nikon's prices.

All of Canon's new lenses have gone up astronomically

Re: New 5D Mark III & Lenses

They're just RRP prices at the moment Ken. I think I've seen the 5DIII at £2700 so I'd expect things to come down quite a lot as stocks come in.

That said - I've not looked at Nikon prices for a while so can't really comment on that front.

I'm happy with my kit at the moment and certainly will not be changing anything thing for quite some time, but if I were in the market for a Hi-res replacement for my 1DsmkIII at this point in time, I would be looking at the Nikon D800E + Nikon 24-70 f2.8 FX with some interest.

My dream lens has always been the EF500, f4 L, but if you look at the prices of all the new glass Canon is bringing out at the moment, their prices have jumped up so much compared to the equivalent older models.

It will be interesting to see the real world picture quality difference between the D800 and 5DmkIII, when they are out on the streets.

Re: New 5D Mark III & Lenses

I came very close to getting the 5D Mark 2 a while back when all I really took were landscapes but having had a play I was a bit concerned with the autofocus capability as I was getting into the bird photography. Then the 7D came which obviously had the autofocus capability but getting a 7D would have meant there was no chance I could afford the full frame 5D Mark 2.

Whilst Canon went with 2 bodies - the high res full frame 5D2 for studio / landcape and the crop 7D for great AF, Nikon went for a lower res full frame all rounder D700 with a respectable AF and the lower pixel density was great as a high ISO performer.

Investment in lenses kind of put me off a change back to Nikon at the time but if the D700 had been a canon I'd have gone for it.

As for the canon 5D Mark III - it looks like they've now gone and put serious AF into the high res full frame so a big thumbs up for that but - now it's beyond what I'm prepared to pay LOL

I might just accept that a two body set up is best (stick to my 1D3 or 7D plan) and pick up a used 5D2 for my landscapes as they're already appearing.

Re: New 5D Mark III & Lenses

The cameras haven't shipped yet to the United States. They're being seen in a few countries but are expected here any moment. I expect mine in 10 days or so. The pre-orders have outstripped the supply. We've only been waiting for the new models for two years.
